Road trip…

Posted by Ben on April 22nd, 2004

So, I had a training course down at Kraft’s facility in East Hanover, NJ. Since I live in the sticks, that meant a little road trip. The drive from northern NY down to the greater NYC area is pretty scenic. Coming south from Albany, you’re following the Catskills and skirting the Hudson River valley. Unfortunately, I think I was about a week or two early to see much greenery, but it’s definitely one of the nicer business-related drives I’ve been on.

And, I’ll be doing it again in June, but continuing on into NYC, since Marcie and I will be spending a weekend there.

The only thing I didn’t like about New Jersey is the way they do their major non-interstate roads. Say I’m driving on NJ-10, and I see a store I want to stop in at on the other side of the road. I have to drive past it, find the next place to make a U-turn (which could involve me going through the exact same traffic signal twice depending on how the intersection is setup), then turn into the store. Then, to continue on down the road in the same direction I was going, I have to exit the lot and do another U-turn.

Really, who’s the genius that engineered that? If there are U-turn locations in abundance, it can be workable, but I had to do a nearly 1-mile backtrack out of my hotel lot at one point. At least NJ gasoline is cheaper.
