No, the time stamp on the post is not a mistake. It’s about 2:15am EDT, and I’m in Lowville running a plant trial. I was supposed to be running it 1st shift yesterday, but due to the inevitable last-minute changes you deal with in a plant, it’s running on 3rd shift. It’s a simple trial, and it seems to be running well, which means I really don’t have much to do besides the time-honored Dilbert tradition of “Management by Walking Around”.
Third shift is kind of interesting in that there’s a really diverse collection of people. There are the ones who work this as a second job because money’s tight. There are the new people who end up on this shift just because the more senior people have priority for 1st and 2nd shifts. Then, there’s some people who just like working 11p-7a. It always seems to be quieter and more uneventful on 3rd shift too. Kind of relaxing, actually.
