Ok…we had an interesting discussion around the lunch table in the cafeteria today. There’s a company out in Utah called CleanFlicks that goes though and edits Hollywood films – ie, removing the 130 F-bombs in Good Will Hunting. Apparently, the directors’ guild is suing them for doing this. The debate is weather or not this is a good thing. Most of us at the table were arguing the directors’ side – it’s art, and we should mess with an artist’s work. My analogy was putting Michelangelo’s Venus di Milo in a turtleneck if you don’t approve of nudity. One guy wasn’t with us – although I could see why – he’s got a couple younger kids, and he doesn’t want them exposed to material like that. Personally, I figure that if you don’t want your kids to see people beating the crap out of each other, don’t let them see Fight Club. I didn’t see an R-rated movie until I was in junior high (and even then, my folks didn’t know) – although I can’t say I’m a better/worse person for it. The only downside is that my knowledge of 80s’ pop-culture trivia sucks.

What are your thoughts?
